![]() ![]() None," exclaimed one of the researchers, rubbing at his temples. "Given that these people are on there way here and will arrive by late morning tomorrow," the chief of security, John, answered, "People are going to learn that we aren't alone out here and that they aren't from Earth." "Is the news to be made public," one of the scientist's aides asked. colony leaned back against her chair and steepled her fingers together in front of her. When the video recording ended with the approach of the horsemen announcing who they were, the leader of the C.A.N. It was impossible! It was giving Aurora a headache, undoubtedly doing the same to the other heads of the departments that were here. All of this drove the scientists and researchers in attendance, those that had made it to the planet at least, into a quiet yet passionate frenzy, their devices' keyboards clicking as they typed madly away. Learning that these humans had been on this planet for thousands of years. The generators outside hummed, lights burning away the dark as they entered the late hours of the night. The command tent was silent, all those in attendance hushed as they watched the video taken by the explorers earlier that day. Crabs and lobsters are found along the shores of all the islands, and west of Great Wyk swordfish, seals, and whales roam the Sunset Sea." - The World of Ice & Fire: The Iron IslandsĪ/N: Thank you to all who participated in the poll. "The waters of Ironman's Bay are home to great schools of cod, black cod, monkfish, skate, icefish, sardines, and mackerel. ![]() Though they basically have their worlds version of the Grand Banks of Newfoundland around their islands. Lordsport is mentioned as a smithing town where "forges of Lordsport produce swords, axes, ringmail, and plate second to none." ![]() It is actually noted that the Ironborn are "Fine Metalsmiths" and have plenty of metals other than Iron like Tin and Lead. EDIT: After a quick fact check I have to rescind my remarks on poor quality iron of the Iron Islands. Honestly the only real resource they have is Skilled Seamen and Shipwrights. It's pretty much the only decent Resource they have, besides a smattering of sheep herders, though from what I've read up about the iron there it's not that great of quality and the smelting methods of the island leave a lot to be desired. Although the modernish firepower the colony has is useful the biggest advantages is logistics, communications and political science I can think of a few faction leaders that would benefit from reading Sun Tzu's the Art of War. Even the base non affinity techs would be more than enough to conquer Westeros and the entire planet in less than a century with any sci-fi/medieval crossover its pretty much a given the sci-fi guys are gonna curb stomp the guys without guns s more interesting concern are things like the morality of uplift and cultural or outright imperialism. In all seriousness if I were in your shoes I would probably be best to review what themes you wanted to explore and the story beats you had in mind when you started writing like that quote I tossed around about the maxim gun no one can really threaten the colony's existence, well no human faction. Honestly, after looking up Beyond Earth's wiki most of the units looked like shit so "generic sci-fi" might be an improvement. ![]()
